Answer: One of the most surprising statistics I read on Statistics Canada was that in 2005, there were 414 recorded cases of pregnancy in girls under 15 years old. You often hear of girls being ‘sixteen and pregnant’ but never girls under 16. This is both extremely shocking and unfortunate as my suspicion is that these girls were either forced into these acts without consent or were not taught about the methods of contraception when they started to become interested in sex. Girls that young need to be educated and taught about the consequences of having unprotected sex. 6) Activity 2 Question: How does self-esteem factor into your sexual choices? Answer: Self esteem plays a large role in my sexual choices. I think many people make the mistake of equating another person’s love for you to the love you feel towards yourself but they are two very different things. Early on, I found that I had low confidence and was participating in sex partly out of curiosity but also partly because I thought it would make me more attractive, or cooler or more dynamic. I also thought that when my partner loved what I did, that meant I was doing something right and now I have a good reason to love myself.
